Welcome to Now We're Talking Speech & Language Therapy
Helping people communicate with confidence, authenticity and purpose
Welcome
I am Jonathan Bose, a speech and language therapist providing support for neurodivergent young people, gender-affirming voice and communication work for TNBI adults, and adult neurological rehabilitation.
I believe communication is about far more than speech alone. It is about expressing who you are, being understood by others, building relationships, and participating in the things that matter to you.
My approach begins with listening. I take time to understand each person's experiences, strengths, goals and challenges. Together, we identify what is getting in the way and develop practical, meaningful ways forward.
Whether I am working with a young person, an adult or a family, I value collaboration, curiosity and co-production. The best outcomes come from working alongside people, not simply doing things to them.
About me
I am a speech and language therapist with extensive experience working across NHS and independent practice settings.
Throughout my career I have supported people with a wide range of communication needs. My background includes specialist work in adult neurological rehabilitation, supporting individuals living with stroke, Parkinson's disease and other neurological conditions.
Over the last five years, my work has increasingly focused on supporting neurodivergent young people and adults. This has deepened my interest in communication differences, self-advocacy, participation and the importance of understanding individuals within the contexts of their everyday lives.
Alongside this work, I provide gender affirming voice therapy for trans adults.
What connects all areas of my practice is a belief that communication does not happen in isolation. It is shaped by relationships, environments, expectations and identity. My goal is to work collaboratively with people to understand their unique experiences and identify practical changes that can reduce barriers and improve participation.
My Approach
Collaborative and person-centred
Neurodiversity-affirming
Evidence-informed
Focused on meaningful real-world outcomes
Guided by co-production wherever possible
I believe that lasting change comes from understanding what matters most to an individual and working together towards goals that are meaningful to them.
I offer support across Sussex through home visits, online appointments, and appointments from therapy rooms in Hove.

Neurodivergent Young People and Adults
Neurodivergent Communication Support
Every person communicates differently.
When communication difficulties arise, it can be tempting to focus solely on the individual. However, communication is always a shared process between people, environments and expectations.
My work with neurodivergent young people and adults is grounded in a neurodiversity-affirming approach. This means recognising and respecting differences in communication styles, sensory experiences and ways of interacting with the world.
Understanding Before Intervention
Effective support begins with understanding.
I take time to gather information from the young person and the people around them to develop a shared understanding of strengths, challenges and priorities.
Together we explore questions such as:
What is working well?
Which situations feel difficult or exhausting?
What barriers exist within the environment?
What changes might support successful communication and participation?
A Different Way of Thinking About Communication
Traditional approaches to social communication have often focused on helping autistic people behave in ways that more closely match neurotypical expectations.
While some skills may be useful and important to develop, I believe it is equally important to consider the expectations themselves.
For example, difficulties with small talk, conversational turn-taking or highly structured social conventions do not automatically mean that the person is communicating incorrectly. Sometimes communication breakdown occurs because people have different communication styles and expectations.
My aim is not to teach people to hide who they are. Instead, I work with them and the people around them to improve mutual understanding, reduce barriers and support authentic communication.

Gender Affirming Voice Therapy
Available online throughout the UK (for folk living outside Sussex).
For many trans people, voice can play an important role in identity, confidence and self-expression.
Voice work is not about achieving a particular pitch or sounding a certain way. Instead, it is a collaborative process that explores the aspects of communication that feel most important to you.
Together we can work on areas such as:
Vocal pitch
Resonance
Intonation
Communication style
Confidence in speaking situations
Finding a voice that feels authentic and sustainable
There is no single "correct" voice. My role is to support you in exploring and developing communication that feels comfortable, effective and aligned with your goals.
Sessions are tailored to individual priorities and delivered online.
